TIS launch Academy to train next generation of multi-system engineers
We are very proud of the team at Total Integrated Solutions for launching the TIS Academy.
The academy is focused on providing talented young people with the opportunity to develop a career in engineering. Partnering with training provider Skills for Security, they have implemented a disciplined approach to putting the student’s learning and development first, above day-to-day operational demands.
There is a total of 15 apprentice engineers in the academy, which is based across TIS offices in Mansfield, Nottingham, Coleshill, Leeds and Uxbridge.
The core 36-month programme offers enhanced on-the-job training and qualifications that will enable multi-system engineers to install and maintain every discipline that TIS offers across its converged network solutions.
James Twigg, chief executive at TIS, said: “For too long there’s been an engineering skills shortage in our industry, but with the launch of the TIS Academy we’re renewing our commitment to deliver highly-skilled individuals across our growing and demanding business.
“The programme will nurture young talent in engineering, creating new roles and giving young people the opportunity to build a career with TIS. Each apprentice will be given adequate time, investment and experience to prosper and start their careers in the best possible fashion.
“It’s important to me that we’re investing in young talent, particularly given the rates of youth unemployment following the pandemic.”
Current apprentice engineer Bobbi Brown first heard about TIS apprenticeships after finishing college, where she studied maths and engineering. She says, “While the Academy is challenging, the extra time spent in the classroom helps me understand the basics, filling in the gaps in my knowledge and giving me a solid foundation for when we get out to customer premises. It’s a really enjoyable experience.”
“I’m really excited for the next three years and the opportunity to graduate from the Academy as a fully-fledged, multi-skilled life safety, security and communications engineer, fulfilling an aspiration of mine since my school days.”
“But beyond the opportunities this qualification will afford me, I’m hoping that by completing this programme, I can set an example for other young girls to pursue a career in what is otherwise a very male-dominated industry. It’s really important to me that we show them that engineering isn’t just a job for ‘blokes’, and that if they love building things, a career as an engineer is a perfectly viable option! The TIS Academy programme is the perfect way to make that a reality.”
